Brackett Green® S.I.M.P.L.E.® Fish Handling Screen

S.I.M.P.L.E.® fish screens are supplied as dual flow, dual flow conversion and thru-flow models. The unique design provides for the natural tendency of juvenile fish to seek shelter in the integrated buckets when caught in the flow of an intake. The screen rotates the fish to deck level where a series of gentle sprays channels the fish into a trough, then back to their source water. The Brackett Green® S.I.M.P.L.E® fish handling screen is in compliance with EPA regulation 316b.

Ovivo offers some of the world’s leading technologies in fish protection. The S.I.M.P.L.E.® fish handling band screen is one such innovation. Utilizing a “recovery and return” approach, traveling fish buckets are incorporated into existing or new rotating band and drum screens. Captured fish are elevated to deck level in a pool of water retained in the bucket, where a series of gentle sprays sluice the fish into a return trough, back to their natural habitat and away from the intake flow. This advanced process has proven to be both reliable and effective, ensuring significant increases in marine life survival at raw water intakes.

In addition to helping plants meet the requirements of US EPA Legislation 316(b), the S.I.M.P.L.E.® fish screens are available in dual flow, dual flow conversions or thru-flow configurations and can be designed to accommodate various flow rates, high water, low water and invert. Various mesh openings and construction materials can be selected for fresh, brackish or seawater intakes.

Responding to increasing demands to reduce the environmental impacts of cooling water withdrawal on new or existing intakes, Ovivo now manufactures fish handling band screens using the S.I.M.P.L.E.® process for marine life recovery.

The S.I.M.P.L.E.® screen is designed to recover and return fish to their natural habitat unharmed, thereby increasing fish survivability and lowering the costs associated with unplanned shutdowns due to large numbers of fish being drawn into intakes and fouling equipment, along with the costs of disposing the captured fish.

The screens are available in a multitude of different materials, including epoxy-coated or galvanized carbon steel, with stainless smooth-top or non-metallic mesh. For inquiries, please specify flow rate, high water, low water, desired mesh opening, elevations or height of deck, number of screens required and desired construction material. Our engineers can also customize the screen components to fit existing band and drum screens.
