Why Water: A Journey with Sahir Dange

In conversation with Sahir Dange, Senior Manager-Process Engineering at Ovivo India, we delved into his inspiring journey in water treatment, driven by personal experiences of water scarcity and a passion for making a difference. Over his 13-year career with Ovivo, Sahir has contributed to various projects that improve access to clean water, using innovation and technology to address global water challenges.

His Journey:

Sahir’s journey began in Solapur, a small town in the state of Maharashtra, India. Growing up, water scarcity was a significant issue in his hometown, with water only available every 4-5 days. During times of shortage, the nearest place to fetch water was 2-3 kilometers away from his home, making daily life even more challenging. This early experience of water insecurity shaped his awareness of water’s importance, sparking a desire to contribute to improving access to clean water.

After earning his degree in mechanical engineering in 2006, Sahir entered the service industry. However, his childhood experiences stayed with him, and he eventually found his way to the water industry, joining Ovivo in 2011. Over the past 13 years, Sahir has played an important role in multiple projects, including sedimentation processes and the SIC Group, helping develop technologies that bring clean water to communities.

The Significance of Water:

Sahir’s connection to water has only deepened throughout his career. Growing up with limited access to clean water instilled in him an understanding of how essential water is to human survival. He explains, „Water is life, without it, we cannot survive beyond a few days. From the water in our bodies to the water we use daily, it is an irreplaceable resource that affects every aspect of our lives.”

For Sahir, working in water treatment isn’t just a job, it’s a mission to improve the lives of others by ensuring access to this vital resource. „I feel happy that I’m contributing towards the betterment of people’s lives,“ he says. His work is driven by his belief in the necessity of water for life and a passion to make a difference, one project at a time.

He highlights the difficulties faced by countries like India and regions in Africa, where access to clean water remains limited, particularly in rural and remote areas. Ensuring that these regions have the infrastructure and technologies needed to provide clean water is a crucial challenge for the future.

For Sahir, the future of water treatment lies in innovation and collaboration. „Water treatment, and getting clean and drinkable water, is the right of every person,“ he says. He believes that by working together, we can continue to make significant strides in ensuring that everyone has access to this fundamental resource.
