Why Water: A Journey with Kuo Hsuan Tai
In a conversation with Kuo Hsuan Tai, Deputy General Manager at Ovivo Taiwan, we explore his journey from mechanical engineering to the world of water treatment. His career path, shaped by diverse experiences and a passion for innovation, underscores the growing significance of water in an ever-changing world.
His Journey:
Originally from Hsinchu City, Taiwan, Kuo Hsuan pursued a degree in mechanical engineering, followed by a master’s degree in mechatronics, combining mechanical and electrical engineering. His research on carbon nanotubes during his studies led him to the fast-paced semiconductor industry, where he gained hands-on experience with fabrication technologies.
He started his career in the engineering industry, supervising power plant renewals in New Taipei City. His role involved quality checks and material inspections, giving him a solid foundation in project management. Eventually, a position at Ovivo Taiwan marked a turning point, introducing him to the different aspects of water treatment.
The Significance of Water:
In this region, where rivers flow swiftly from mountains to sea, Kuo Hsuan observed firsthand the challenges of water scarcity. He explains, “Rainwater often runs off quickly, leaving little for storage. This inspired me to explore how water can be preserved and used efficiently.”
His work with Ovivo broadened his perspective. “Before, I thought water was just for drinking. Now, I see how it powers industries, supports agriculture, and sustains life. Water is like gold—irreplaceable and invaluable,” he reflects.
Why Water with Ovivo?
Joining Ovivo was a chance to combine his engineering expertise with his curiosity about water treatment. “Ovivo’s cross-cultural environment allowed me to connect with professionals worldwide, learning from their experiences,” he shares. He values Ovivo’s culture of innovation and adaptability, noting, “Ovivo allows room for learning from mistakes, which is crucial for growth.”
Kuo Hsuan also highlights Ovivo’s customer-centric approach: “Our customized water treatment systems stand apart, meeting each client’s precise needs with advanced, automated solutions. This level of innovation is unmatched.”
What Does the Future of Water Treatment Look Like?
Looking ahead, Kuo Hsuan envisions a future where water technology becomes essential for survival in resource-scarce regions. “Global weather changes make water conservation critical. Innovations like seawater desalination and microplastic pollution control will shape the next era of water treatment,” he explains.
That said, he remains optimistic about the potential of water technology and Ovivo’s role in the water industry. He concludes, “Water is everywhere, connecting industries, people, and life.”
