Why Water: A Journey with Océane Ropital

Why Water

In a conversation with Océane Ropital, Water Treatment Technician at Ovivo France, we uncover her journey from national-level gymnastics to becoming a water treatment professional. She shares how her studies and career led her to discover the fascinating world of process water, the impact of water treatment across industries, and the importance of inspiring future generations to see the value of water.

Her Journey:

Océane’s path has been anything but ordinary. As a former national gymnast for France, she dedicated her early life to high-level competitions. After high school, she chose an advanced technician’s certificate in water professions for its career potential and the flexibility it offered to continue her gymnastics training.

What began as a practical decision quickly turned into a passion. After receiving her advanced technician certificate, she earned a professional degree in Water Treatment and Soil Decontamination, paving her way into the industry.

Her journey with Ovivo began five years ago after responding to a job posting shared by her former teacher. Today, she reflects on her evolution as a technician, finding pride and fulfillment in her expertise and role within the team.

The Significance of Water:

Océane’s appreciation for water grew through her experiences at home and abroad. A gymnastics competition in Colombia opened her eyes to water scarcity. « We didn’t have bottles; instead, we were given small water pouches. There was no tap water, and in the heat, it was difficult. It made me realize how fortunate we are in France. »

For her, water is essential to life. « It’s very simple, life begins at the bottom of the oceans. There’s a whole food chain in the water. Without it, there’s nothing left—not even us. » This perspective continues to inspire her work and her mission to educate others about the value of water.

Why Water with Ovivo?

Before Ovivo, Océane worked in a lab role where she did not feel recognized. The move to Ovivo marked a meaningful shift in her professional experience. « Here, I’m seen as a technician, not just a girl in a lab. My manager trusts me, and I’ve grown so much in my role. »

She also values Ovivo’s precise approach to water treatment. « We follow specific procedures, provide detailed feedback, and always know why we’re doing something. Seeing the tangible impact of our work—happy customers and recycled water—makes it incredibly rewarding. »

She has also given back to her community through a partnership with her former high school. Visiting annually, she shares insights about processed water in industries like pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and semiconductors, emphasizing their relevance to all students and being a role model for girls in the sciences.

What Does the Future of Water Treatment Look Like?

When asked about the future, Océane is both optimistic and cautious. « Water is becoming scarcer, and finding fresh water is increasingly challenging. I believe we’ll see significant advancements in seawater desalination to meet the challenges of increasing demand and consumption.”

At Ovivo, she’s confident in the company’s ability to drive innovation. « I’ve discovered technologies here I never knew existed. Ovivo has the expertise and resources to lead advancements in water treatment. »
