The Ovivo type C3S suction tube clarifier provides a rapid return of the collected sludge for fresh, highly concentrated bio solids and high quality effluent. The suction tubes, fitted with easily accessible flow control valves, allow individual control of each sludge collection point for a more tailored gathering of bio solids.

The EDI dissipates the kinetic energy of the influent mixed liquor flow. Evenly spaced tangentially oriented scoops or vanes in the EDI shell create a controlled and quiescent discharge of the mixed liquor into the flocculating feedwell to enhance flow distribution and flocculation. The flocculating feedwell promotes flocculation of the mixed liquor suspended solids. It allows for a gradual redirection of the flow velocity into the clarifier and the sedimentation of the flocs creating a sludge blanket at the bottom of the tank.

Designed for rapid sludge removal, the Ovivo type C3S Clarifier features suction tubes spaced along the mechanism rake arms and center cage that extend to a sludge collection box at the top of the column. The tubes are sized and spaced to optimize the collection of sludge. At the tube entrance, V-shaped rake blades direct settled sludge to the collection point. Within the rotating sludge collection box, at the discharge end of the suction tube is an adjustable flow control valve. Easily accessed from the clarifier maintenance platform, the valves allow the relative flow rates to be individually adjusted and permit both visual inspection of sludge flow and sampling to determine concentration.

The design advantage of the C3S system is the ability to adjust the relative withdrawal rate from different areas of the basin floor, which means that irregularities in the depth, density and age of the sludge blanket can be remedied, giving operators “hands-on” quality control of the recycle stream. In addition, the relatively large diameter of the riser pipes – from 4″ to 10″ depending on the size of the clarifier – makes the C3S intrinsically clog-resistant. However, should a line become clogged, back flushing through the valve or concentrating the available head (increased flow) will usually free the obstruction without the need for dewatering the basin.

Ovivo’s cast-iron, oil lubricated drives are equipped with bearings, worms and pinion mounted on a precisely machined surface. In every drive a high quality solid pinion maintains alignment and gives better resistance to bending and deflection under loads. Mating parts are machined to precise tolerances to assure precise fit and alignment. Every drive part is fully restrained (top and bottom) with no overhung loads. Main bearings are fully restrained into base. Worm gear reducer, single solid pinion, single solid worm / worm shaft and main gear all meet the latest AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers’ Association) standards.

Each drive is equipped with an overload control device activated by thrust from the worm shaft. This drive control includes a clear plastic enclosure and a weatherproof enclosure of epoxy coated aluminum construction with electro-mechanical switches.
