Physical Chemical Treatment

Physical Chemical Wastewater treatment covers the range of treatment processes that remove a variety of impurities from water or wastewater. Chemical Physical treatment generally includes the dosing of suitable chemicals to precipitate impurities. This precipitate containing the impurity is then generally removed by sedimentation, flotation and filtration. If undertaken correctly, this process will remove specific impurities and produce treated water suitable for either discharge or next process step depending on overall process. Sludge can then generally be treated and dewatered for subsequent disposal.

Process

Industrial wastewater is typically dosed with suitable chemical to precipitate any unwanted metal hydroxides, organic substances or other dissolved impurities. Typical process usually contains appropriate chemical dosing/make up system, reaction tank with adequate mixing and sedimentation or flotation unit. In reaction tank precipitating chemical from the dosing/make up unit, reacts with these impurities presented in the water to be treated, to form an insoluble precipitate. These precipitates form bigger flocks, which are removed by sedimentation or flotation, thereby reducing the content of suspended solids as well as unwanted impurities. Depending of the process, treated water is ready for discharge or it can be treated if needed even further with, for example sand filtration or other filtrations. Sludge formed in this process is treated with suitable sludge dewatering technique and disposed accordingly.
