Clean Water Testing to Begin at the Largest MBR in the USA
At 42mgd the Canton, OH WWTP will soon be the largest MBR in the US and one of the largest in the world. Under construction since April 2014, the plant has just completed clean water testing on the first of six MBR trains. Managing the long (6 year) construction project from Austin, TX., Mrs. Aihua Dong has worked closely with The City of Canton, Shook Construction and CT Consultants. She has us well prepared to start testing and is diligently managing the project budget. Ovivo’s MBR Territory Manager, Jesse Phillips, has been busy training operations staff over the last several months and is working closely with the construction superintendent to ensure the readiness of all the different systems.
A minimum of 1,500,000 gallons of clean, non-potable water will be used for this 4-5 day test. Following the clean water test, the basin will remain filled with water to avoid potential freezing of submerged equipment.
Only the customer’s acceptance of the new headworks equipment stands between us and kicking off phase 1 of the biggest MBR in the United States.
The Canton facility discharges into the Nimishillen Creek watershed which is designated as a Primary Contact Recreation (PCR) and Secondary Contact Recreation (SCR) body of water. The criterion for the PCR designation is being suitable for full-body contact recreation.
